A Valentine’s Love Story

A couple months ago, we caught a tweet on Twitter linking to a pretty remarkable engagement photo gallery.

That was when we first met Hannah and Kevin…

This couple’s true-life love story included a health journey that coursed through the aisles of the Athens, GA Earth Fare. Together, Hannah and Kevin grew healthier, happier and deeper in love. Now they’re engaged to be married in October!

That made us wonder: What would it look like to fall in love at first bite? Could a simple trip to pick up a pineapple change your life? That’s how Hannah and Kevin’s story inspired this video.

With Valentine’s Day close, text “EAT” to 71700 and follow great text deals to a happier, healthier future… and possibly to love.

Do you have a food journey love story? Tell us in the comments. Happy Valentine’s Day and congrats to Hannah and Kevin!

Please bring back the Prime Rib Tuesday to our Huntersville, NC store! We were so disappointed last night when we heard the meal was chicken instead. We boutght the special regularly! Thanks!

I have a food love story.

Almost 18 months ago I was diagnosed with heart disease. At just 36 yrs old (!), a catheterization revealed a 60-70% blockage.

That very night, I decided to fight heart disease with nutrition, adopting a low-oil and completely vegan diet. I’m slowly weening myself off of the statin drugs and my total cholesterol has hovered between just 70 and 90 pts since the diagnosis, but it’s really my wife and her loving support that’s made it all possible.

She’s supported the new diet, adopting it the very same day -no eggs, no meat (not even fish), no dairy —and she’s the daughter of a dairy farmer! Her full commitment to a new way of eating is the greatest act of love I know. People have such powerful relationships with food and for her to change it all to support me is just amazing. Sadly, I know her attitude is not common because I hear from friends and family who have all sorts of ailments that could be helped through diet but they receive little support –even from spouses!– to make big changes that make a difference.

Since changing what we eat our health has improved, we’ve both lost weight, we’ve enjoyed some amazing meals while traveling (thank you, Yelp!), and prepared some awesome ones at home. Many of those ingredients come from EarthFare and places like it that reflect our values and our needs. I’m lucky to be so loved!
