Jorge’s Picnic Proposal

In the May Flyer, we asked readers to “Tell us about your best picnic of all time!” The winning entry came from Jorge in Greensboro, NC. Here is Jorge’s story, in his own words…

You tell us your funniest holiday memory! The best picnic I ever had is when I proposed to my wife.

At the beginning of July 2008, I created this three-day proposal, finishing day with a picnic at the park on July 3. The picnic setting is on a ledge next to a stream tucked away in the trees at Creekside Park in Archdale, NC; the location of our second date. The picnic basket was packed with Turkey wraps, chips and her favorite (that I made myself)…banana pudding.

On the picnic blanket is a book I made with a card that read, “Chapter Three: Where I Fell.” The book included a picture of me and our children, each wearing a different shirt:

  • A Will Smith shirt,
  • An Uncle Sam shirt that says “You!,”
  • A Virgin Mary shirt…

And then, there I am on one knee with a shirt that says “Me.”

After what felt like an eternity, she finally said, “OF COURSE!!!” This is by far the greatest picnic I’ve ever had. Not only did we have a nice meal, it is a memory that will never be forgotten.Pick up a copy of the January flyer for this month's contest.

The service at the food bar was not very professional, asked to a sandwich, was told the sandwich would have to be built even though over 15 in the case. ….no fresh beverage options…only coffee, no juices, teas and other healthy offerings ( we understand why there was no sodas, but no juices didnt make sense. ) the flow was awkward. our meal was over 30 dollars , yet most of the food from the salad and hot bar was dry…we have shopped at other Earth Fare markets and had a much better experience…this one is located at South Park area in Charlotte….very disappointed…had to throw away food as it was not eatible.
