It’s LUNCHTIME CRUNCHTIME!

We want to know: what’s in YOUR lunch bag?

Lunch is important! Whether you’re working from the 5th floor or the 5th grade, it’s a fact of life: the better you eat, the better you feel – and the better you feel, the better you work!

So tell us. What kind of brain food do you pack in YOUR lunch? Do you include a mid-morning snack or a mid-afternoon pick-me-up? Is there a secret ingredient you just can’t leave at home?

We’re looking for the yummiest, healthiest, most creative lunch ideas you’ve got! And the winner is up to YOU.

This is a new kind of contest for the blog. Here’s how it works:

  1. Leave us YOUR lunch idea in the comments.
  2. Send your friends to this entry!
  3. Tell them to click “like” next to your comment.
  4. At the end of the week (that’s 5:00 pm on Friday, August 6th), the comment with the most votes WINS!

First prize will be a $150 Earth Fare gift card. Second prize is a $75 Earth Fare gift card. And third prize is a $50 Earth Fare gift card. So, come on – tell us what you pack for lunch!

UPDATE: Our commenting widget is currently being buggy – for now, leave your vote in the form of a comment. Just tell me the name of the person you’re voting for, and I’ll track the votes that way. I’ll let you know if anything changes!

My kids & my own fave lunch right now:

It’s light, filling, & exactly right for lunch!

I usually eat one of two lunches.

Curry Chicken Salad with raisins, almonds and greek yogurt to cut down on some of the mayo in a low carb wheat wrap.
Cucumbers and grapes tomatoes with hummus.
    Unsweet tea and bottled water.
    String cheese.
Endangered species dark chocolate with cocoa nibs.

    Or

Tuna Salad from Earthfare with salad mix, croutons, cucumbers, boiled eggs and tomatoes. Newman’s Own Ranch Dressing on the Side.
    Apple
    Handful of Walnuts
    Vegan Brownie from Earthfare
    Bottled Water

I pack for a traditional 6y.o. and my hubby who has a similar palate…no sushi, kashi or couscous for him. (sigh) So what I’ve found is stick to natural/organics basics and invest in a Stainless Steel Thermos brand short cup and re-usable blue ice blocks. Then we have dual compartment lunch bags so the hots stay hot and cools stay cold. Too many ice blocks and it may even freeze we found out.

Monday-Earthfare Mac-n-cheese w/ tuna & peas mixed in , apple slices coated w/ Orange Juice so they don’t brown (lemonade works too) and a little tub of Peanut Butter, UHT Horizon milk box or 100% Juice depending on kiddo’s choice in the morn.

Tues-Son’s school orders in Taco Bell! So I make homemade soft tortillas (in a pinch I’ll buy them), shredded Cheddar, homemade organic salsa, sour cream all in separate containers so He gets to build his own soft tacos. Then I add a fruit leather and drink.

Weds-Applegate Farms Chicken Nuggets, Ketchup (lol-govt counts it as a vegetable!) Corn in a baggie above or below Nuggets in Thermos, yogurt cup and drink

Thurs- Variety Day…leftovers or sandwich with all parts separated and kept the right temps (me I like a bagel, cream cheese, salmon and lettuce…mmmm) veggie stix and hummus and a drink.

Friday is pizza day at school and a smart momma doesn’t mess with that. LOL.

With the insulated dual compartment cooler and proper equipment/accessories everything stays the correct temp from the time he leaves the house til he eats about 4-5 hours later.

  32. Nerm says:

    I vote Farrah’s lunch!

  33. Kaye says:

Fresh Fruit, and lots of it (easy to eat, portable)
Natural Peanut Butter (good stable source of protein)
    Water
    Some dry Earth Fare Cereal
