Going the Distance To Eliminate Childhood Obesity

Every 3 months, Earth Fare partners with a local community organization that is actively fighting childhood obesity.

GO FAR (Go Out For a Run) is a nonprofit fitness program that recently worked with our Greensboro store.  Working with children in Guilford County, NC GoFar gets kids active and ready to complete their goal of a 5K road race over 10-weeks!  Beyond the physical activity, GO FAR also promotes healthy eating, goal setting and good character.

Every week, the participating students run one mile to prepare for their 5K road race goal.  At each session, the kids also receive a “secret” healthy snack with clues to challenge them to guess what they will be eating.

What’s great about this program is that most of the kids in this program have not been exposed to the large variety of healthy snacks like kiwis, and mangoes (just to name a few).  Earth Fare partnered with GO FAR by providing the healthy snacks, and even providing funds so that kids who could not afford athletic shoes would be able to purchase a pair and participate in the program.

Earth Fare is serious about fighting to eliminate childhood obesity.  So, in addition to our Itty Bitty Bites program, we partner with our community members like GO FAR who are in the fight with us.

Click on one of the images below to read some of the thank you notes we received from the children and a parent.  Earth Fare thanks GO FAR for their partnership in the community.
