What Does “Certified Organic” Mean?
“Certified Organic” means that the fresh or processed food meets national organic standards.  An inspection agency accredited by the USDA provides certification.  To receive certification, all organic farmers can only use approved materials beneficial to human, plant, animal and soil life.  Farms must develop an organic farm management plan, keep detailed records, and be inspected annually (during an inspection, fields, processing facilities and soil are tested).
